The OARC HamCation® 2010
Anyone who is an amateur radio operator in the southeastern United
States has likely been to the OARC HamCation® at least once, if not more. The HamCation® is presented by the Orlando Amateur Radio Club and it has always proved to be a great place to buy-sell-trade amateur radio equipment and antennas.
The OARC HamCation® is quite an event taking up all of the Central Florida Fairgrounds and all of the buildings. To say that the foot traffic is high throughout the commercial areas, the swap areas, and the tailgate areas would be an understatement. There are times in the commercial areas when you are hemmed in on all sides by the crowds. And, despite the less than perfect weather in Central Florida, this year was no different. What was different was that we chose the HamCation® of 2010 as the first place we would publicly display the Tilt-N-Raise portable antenna mount to the amateur radio community. Without a doubt it can be said that we were not disappointed!
We had decided to stage our presentation out in the tailgate area of the HamCation®. This would allow people to see the mount installed on a vehicle complete with support mast and antenna. The weather on Friday had decorticated early in the day into a cold and rainy one. During a visit on Friday afternoon it was decided to move our presentation indoors. Although we had purchased tickets for tailgating and entrance tickets the gracious people at the HamCation® acclimated us and moved us into Commercial Building #3. And it proved to be a great building for us, a lot of foot traffic but not to the point where people were crushed against each other. The security people were great, allowing us easy access to the building and making sure all of our questions were answered.
We donated a Tilt-N-Raise portable antenna mount to the HamCation® to be given away as a door prize and Harold, KI4CF of Gainesville Florida was the winner. Below we have posted a few pictures of our trip to the OARC HamCation®. For more information about the OARC HamCation® you can use the following link: OARC HamCation® Facts.

Communications tips
Radio and computer equipment.
Pre-stage everything before you head out to the site where you will operating. This will go a long way towards keeping old Murphy at bay, allowing you a more trouble-free operation.
Communications antennas.
Be sure to take along your Tilt-N-Raise antenna mount (you do own one, don't you?) so you (and your team if you are in one) can get on the air quickly once you arrive at your operating location.
ARRL Field Day.
There are a good many operators who run Field Day at their local park. One of the biggest drawbacks to operating with one or maybe two operators on Field Day is putting the antenna up. Now with the Tilt-N-Raise you can have your antenna or antenna support up in 5 minutes or less.
